@oneloop@mastodon.xyz You have replaced the auto-creation of your print queue by cups-browsed by just creating a permanent CUPS queue for your printer in driverless IPP (IPP Everywhere) mode. This is more reliable. #OpenPrinting

@stack@mstdn.social @smallsco@oldbytes.space This covers the front panel of your smart fridge, so you do not see the ads it plays and also the camera does not see any fat on your face or on your body and therefore locks the door ... So you print from an old Mac to a Linux server? #OpenPrinting

I have found an interesting video about the xz backdoor, which got discovered on Easter 2024: https://youtu.be/aoag03mSuXQ The video starts with a jammed printer, but it is not my fault ... I had also

The video, with its thumbnail telling that it is all about the XZ problem, started right away with that it all started with a jamming printer, so not knowing in these first seconds that they also explain the origin of FOSS, my first thought got "Was it me?" ... but seconds later I saw that it was about Richard Stallman. Both Richard and me, our work was triggered by printers, Richard created the concept of FOSS and I created OpenPrinting ... https://openprinting.github.io/OpenPrinting-News-September-2023/ #OpenPrinting

The worst thing about online learning is that everything has become a video. Every code tutorial. Every design tutorial. Nobody actually writes out a guide anymore. It's just "hey guys welcome to my t

@Daojoan@mastodon.social I am posting news about my work at #OpenPrinting regularly and did already for more than 5 years. I intentionally do this as a written blog and not as videos, as on the blog you can search text, easily navigate, you can copy example code and paste, auto translators work better on written than on spoken text, same for accessibility tools ... Or do you prefer watching an old graybeard talking, and for those who want video, I get interviewed here and then. https://openprinting.github.io/news/

@jnsgruk@hachyderm.io @popey@mastodon.social No self-3D-printing required. There is a case from CoolerMaster which fits a @frameworkcomputer@fosstodon.org 13 motherboard so that you can use it like a PC. I got a (now older) RISC-V motherboard from @deepcomputingio@bird.makeup 's CEO Yuning Liang on FOSDEM 2025 for testing printing on RISC-V and I got it in such a case. The case has Wi-Fi antennas (with adapter to connect to the board), VESA (100 mm) mount, stand. No RISC(V), no fun! #OpenPrinting #RISC_V

The Linux Foundation got accepted as GSoC mentoring organization this year, so we from OpenPrinting will also mentor again! We have amazing project opportunities on tap! - Printing integration in the COSMIC desktop (implemented in Rust). - OSS-Fuzz with AI-generate test harnesses - C++-free PDF renderer, permissive license - system-config-printer for CUPS 3.x - Cloud Native packaging of CUPS and printer drivers - Modern web site for OpenPrinting https://github.com/LinuxFoundationGSoC/ProjectIdeas/wiki/GSoC-2026-OpenPrinting #OpenPrinting

@mmu_man@m.g3l.org @bayartb@mastodon.xyz ... mirrored carbon copy on the front side of the "matrice". This "matrice" you put into the alcohol duplicator to make the actual copies onto special sheets for alcohol duplication. Note that to create the carbon copy on the "matrice" you NEED an impact printer (dot matrix "pin" printer, daisy wheel printer, line printer, typewriter, hand drawing/writing with pressure), as non-impact printers (inkjet, laser) will not produce the carbon copy. ... #OpenPrinting
