She and others in the Bancroft neighborhood are trying to raise funds to help their neighbors who have been unable to leave their homes to work for the past several weeks to meet their rent payments for February, which are now past due. The need is dire, and the solution is temporary. But anything you can do to help gives folks there a much-needed reprieve, and helps keep a beautiful, diverse community intact. As rent has been coming due, we have been receiving about 15 requests per day, with the average amount needed per household at around $1,500. Up until a few days ago, we were able to meet requests as they came in, through the generosity of our neighbors and their contacts. The current demand has now exceeded the capacity of our immediate networks, and we need to raise about $30,000 to meet the requests that we know about today. We have entered damage control mode.
