The relevance is in the assumpion is that renewable infrastructure can be built and maintained without fossils and that energy is fungible, so that electricity can substitute all fossil use and sustain a technological society in general.

Careful consideration doesn’t work around thermodynamics very much, I’m afraid. When we move forward, we do not energy transition but rather add new atop the old: we never stopped burning classical biomass, coal or natural gas. Renewable energy is just a new thin layer on top. Depletion of mineral resources necessary for renewable infrastructure buildout and maintenance indeed does a number on the overall economics and energetics, but unfortunately in the wrong drection.

Looking at glass, or cement. Do you know a heat pump that runs at up to 1600 C? So it’s just plain ohmic heating. And it’s a 24/7 process, so it needs electrochemical backup. Do you know what that does to your EROEI?

How does a heat pump helps you firing Portland cement, ceramics, melting glass and metal, fixating air nitrogen? And these are all 24/7 industrial processes.

I use many software installation sources, including Obtainium from GitHub. I do not assign the same trust levels to each. E.g. F-Droid at least has some shallow level of review for the packages they build.

You can run your VPN on your firewall (mine is opnsense, behind a cable modem in bridge mode). E.g. wireguard with Mullvad is a good option. Or you can set up a VPN client on your end devices – Mullvad gives you 5 endpoints for one account.

Obviously Graphene OS is the current gold standard for privacy, but you can run a Lineage OS device without Google Play Services, with only free/libre software installation sources, and without the telemetry for those users who can’t or won’t use current GOS. This is obviously a considerable improvement over a Chinese or other commercial manufacturer. But, yes, if you can run GOS rather than LOS, you should.

I would agree that far right extremism qualifies as right wing. Trouble is, in Germany the AfD has identical positions as CDU/CSU as of decade or two ago, and both would be considered to be left wing in the US political context. A very left party like BSW was attempted to be smeared to be right wing. Such labels assigned by the mainstream media have become meaningless, so I would encourage you to look at party programs and their voting patterns in parliaments to gauge where they really stand. I will avoid mentioning the general regression to pre-party times to avoid further confusion.
