@caseyjennings @jeff @MHowell @raiderrobert @pluralistic Yeah, there's a big difference between suddenly having to pay to use the air con and something that is genuinely an ongoing service with costs.
My car came with a three year subscription to GPS map updates, traffic trolleys etc. I can see that such things have an upkeep cost and so didn't mind too much about paying the subscription when that came to an end.
