How much organic material, including nitrogen, is released when permafrost thaws and erodes on rivers and the coast? Our scientist Dr Tina Sanders is trying to find an answer to this question. She spent two weeks in Alaska with researchers from the @awi@helmholtz.social and the University of Eastern Finland (UEF). The team took ice, water and soil samples. These are now being analyzed in Hereon for nitrogen compounds such as nitrate, ammonium or dissolved organic nitrogen.
