Iran closes Strait of Hormuz and attacks tanker
Iran has officially announced the closure of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz to all maritime traffic. Tehran's representatives stated this move is a direct response to the ongoing US naval blockade in the region. Concurrently, Iranian gunboats operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps opened fire on a commercial tanker near the coast of Oman. The attack occurred shortly after the announcement of the strait's closure. As a result of these developments, approximately twenty vessels that were heading toward the strait have been forced to alter their routes and turn back.
