1) 46 states and territories *already do this* and *have for years*
2) Selective Service has been a law for *almost 80 years now*
3) This provision was added by *Democrats* to make sure no one is caught unaware by the existing laws, and to save processing money
4) Selective Service isn't the draft. It's the mechanism, but a draft requires an act of Congress and would almost certainly lead to civil unrest right away.
