Today I went to protests in downtown San Jose and in Sunnyvale along El Camino Real, which appropriately enough for this event means the royal road.

I saw a lot of people, and talked with a few. The variety I saw gives me hope.

As people drove by, many shared their support by honking, waving, showing signs and flags. I tried to wave back and share a thumbs up with those who did.

I realized that some in the cars might not otherwise be able to join us. Some had small children. A few had handicap placards. One passenger appeared to have Downs syndrome; I could tell he was glad to be there, and I'm glad he was too.

Everyone I saw is an American.
