I used to work with some swingers. I asked them about the lifestyle. "You have a lot of sex, but it's not necessarily with people you'd be interested in having sex with. Sometimes you're the other side of that equation."

And let's be honest, fewer of us survived than nowadays. Yeah, not everyone got rocketed out the front window from lying up on the rear deck of our parents' oldsmobile. Not all of us had life altering injuries from jumping bikes off shitty ramps with no protection. Not every one of us ended up in a pedo neighbors basement, But some of us did. Our parents' apathy to parenting and our own poor judgment skills weren't lessons to make us better or badges of honor. We survived despite of all that rather than because of it.

I do a few things at work that I use AI for. Work had a gpt enterprise key, now we’ve moved to claude. Through O365, I also have access to copilot. Pretty much anything I ask claude or gpt about, I can be sure to get a solid answer or one that was at least on Stack Exchange or Reddit. If that fails, and I drill down a little more on a problem, adding details, they’ll both get a little better after a couple of questions and usually come up with a reasonable answer. Not copilot. If you ask copilot something and it doesn’t come back in one shot with an authoritative cited answer, just walk away. It makes no attempt to ensure the answer is right or sane. It either hit in training or it didn’t. And if it didn’t, trying to convince it to strike out in a few other directions to solve it is absolutely a fool’s errand. It’s like they bought into OpenAI, then never got any updates or made any progress. I

if all forms of verification are deal breakers, we either need to get laws made to make it unlawful, or we need to boycot services that require it. The government is still going to do whatever it wants, and they already mishandle all your data.

Don’t worry, it’s just the open-source version of the market correcting. There’s no stock, no venture capital. If the group putting in time and effort to help maintain something doesn’t like how the project is being run, they take a copy and start over with a new name. It’s happened countless times on OS, it’ll happen countless more. Often, the existing leadership is burned out, some of the more active members move on, and those left through attrition lack the skills to keep it going. The forks generally move forward faster and cleaner with more active people. Other than needing to change distros, it’s pretty much a win.

The vast majority of men out there aren't POS. The vast majority of evening and nighttime walks aren't dangerous. Yet women are scared AF to walk at night to the point where they feel they need to be armed, and that the average guy is worse than the bear. Decent guys didn't get us into this, and we're damned well incapable of getting us out.

Those sandwiches also come in regional variations up north. Grinders or Hoagies. My wife took me to a local deli where she grew up in CT. I got a meatball sub. The roll was from my finger tips to my elbow. it had 4 meatballs on it bigger each than my fist. It was around $12. She got the same, but a pepperoni version with tomatoes and lettuce. Each one had to have been 5 lbs of meat. In New Jersey I got a hoagie, the bread was so big, you couldn't close your grip around it using both hands

One person could have rewritten Notepad from scratch in C++ in a day and bolted in Markdown in a relatively secure fashion in another 2. I doubt security even hit the requirements list. I'm not against moving windows components to Rust. I've not against losing features here and there to get there, but blatantly ignoring security because it's in Rust is downright stupid.

I’ve had a good one before. They’re rare AF. Most places just seem to throw some overcooked butter-drenched lobster claw meat on a Pepperidge Farm top split and call it a day. You need to go somewhere with an actual chef to get one properly executed. (or maybe an ancient Northeastern grandmother) Lobster salad, no huge chunks, relatively dry, properly salted, moderately spiced. A Top-split roll that’s soft on the outside and crunchy butter-fried on the inside. Even at their best, you won’t cry for it when it’s gone. It’ll just be a “that was good” and a nice solemn happiness that you ate it.

Everything is of course expensive. One of my exes was a farm girl. They had a smallish farm 250 Acres (101 Hectares). He had a couple dozen cows, planted every other inch he could find, and rented a few neighboring fields. He had everything for planting/maintaining/harvesting. Anytime something got paid off, he picked up something else. Everything was a juggling act. Every free dollar was reinvested. They lived relatively decently, but modestly. Everyone got whatever they needed; nothing was extravagant. He had some outrageous amount in loans, many millions.

First: Every product we build must give people agency in how it works. Privacy, data use, and AI must be clear and understandable. Controls must be simple. AI should always be a choice — something people can easily turn off. People should know why a feature works the way it does and what value they get from it. That’s a good idea to put first. Of course, like do no evil, priorities change, so we’ll need to keep a close eye on this. Second: our business model must align with trust. We will grow through transparent monetization that people recognize and value. Transparent is good, but if he things he’s going to add value to monetization, he’s smoking crack. There’s nothing we want from a browser that’s not already provided by a plugin. Third: Firefox will grow from a browser into a broader ecosystem of trusted software. Firefox will remain our anchor. It will evolve into a modern AI browser and support a portfolio of new and trusted software additions. Nobody wants that. We already had all we wanted from them in trusted software.

I’m up to 45TB of actual used storage. I just want another tape analog. I want inexpensive, slow, long-term storage I can move off-site easily. This paying double to keep disks around and then moving them in boxes is just bad, and online storage is stupid expensive at those sizes. Was running on Backblaze for years until they screwed around with my client enough that I can’t backup my NAS reliably. I’m not a company, I’m not going to pay the cost of my disks every year to store the content of my disks. I’ve been considering for a few years standing up a 2u box in colocation.
