One aspect of driving an EV that doesn't get enough attention is regenerative braking. The Kia app has started showing how much power is fed back to the battery for each of my trips and it's typically around 40%. I'm surprised how high it is. ICE vehicles in contrast waste all of their forward momentum when braking. I've heard of people with 10-year-old EVs in Hawaii who have had to replace rotors and other parts of the brake assembly while the pads look almost new. #EV #driving

I noticed around twenty years ago that insects in Europe were in serious decline. It didn’t even need a ‘scientific study’ and I use the same methodology today. In the 1980s, in summer, when I drove in Europe, the windscreen of my car was covered in dead insects after only 100km of driving. By the early 2000s this was no longer true. Many fewer bug-splats on the glass. Now? Hardly any at all. You cannot blame Climate Change for this. This is down to excessive pesticides and farming techniques. Now studies show bird populations in serious decline. Ever wonder what they used to eat? We learnt nothing from the DDT fiasco, apparently. #insects #flies #driving #Climate #ClimateChange #pesticides #farming #environment #Birds #bioaccumulation #systemcollapse

February is cub season for badgers. Mums with babies only ever go a 500metre distance from their cubs. If you see a badger newly dead by the roadside please check for lactation (bare area around swollen teats on her underside). * Her cubs have 24 hours before they leave the set in search of mum, and they will die of hypothermia. *https://www.badgertrust.org.uk/report if you find one as described. Link added thanks to a quote reply. 🙏 Please please share, or post your own toot. Xx #badgers #roadkill #nature #cars #driving #environment
