undefined | ‘Government needs to recognise failure of water privatisation’ – Feargal Sharkey by Ayshah Tull On 7 April 2026, singer‑turned‑environmental campaigner Feargal Sharkey told Channel 4 News that “Government needs to recognise failure of water privatisation”. In the interview conducted by news correspondent Ayshah Tull, Sharkey explained the reasons behind his campaign to bring water companies back into public ownership, arguing that private control has led to inadequate investment, rising bills and poor service for consumers. He highlighted the wider environmental consequences, including sewage problems and the impact on UK water resources, urging policymakers to act now to protect the nation’s water infrastructure. For the last 505 hours a Southern Water outfall has been feeding into the Itchen just north of Winchester city. This area is a site of preservation for chalkstream wildlife. So well hidden, the site of the outfall is looking difficult to reach. Really needs a drone and camera to find to search out samples. Feeling very underequipped to be a part of solution. If anyone knows anyone near the Winchester area who could genuinely be of assistance (expereince or means to get to hard to reach waterways) could they get in touch with the Winchester Green Party? contact@winchester.greenparty.org.uk A boost would be great, if anyone's feeling charitable. #environment #Itchen #sewage #Winchester #preservation #river

Once again evidence suggests the water companies are being allowed to 'mark their own homework' by an under-funded Environmental Agency, lacking capacity to make site visits (hardly a mistake; a direct & intended consequence of austerity, as yet only partly reversed). As the water & sewage scandal, now subject to a TV docu-drama series, becomes ever clearer, one can only wonder how much longer the supporters of privatisation can hold out? #water #sewage #politics https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2026/mar/01/thousands-pollution-incidents-england-downgraded-without-site-visit-data-suggests

'We Own It' campaigns against privatisation. They have been asking all MPs in the Thames Water region to sign an open letter to Ofwat and the Environment Secretary, urging them to reject the creditors’ proposal to pollute illegally. "The name of every single Thames Water MP should be on this open letter. Because it’s so simple. Do they think water companies should be allowed to get away with polluting - illegally - for profit, or do they not? In light of the recent news that the creditors might be closing in on a deal, we've extended the deadline until Friday 6th February to make sure that we can get as many MPs' names as possible. Here is a list of all the Thames Water MPs who still haven’t signed. Is your MP on it? Take 2 mins to email them now." https://weownit.org.uk/news/is-your-mp-ok-with-illegal-pollution-until-2040/ #sewagePollution #sewage #shame #weOwnIt
