The programme is open to graphic design and type design students who have completed a master’s degree or equivalent, and to professionals. Applicants can present a personal research project or apply to one of the research programmes: L’œuvre de Franck Jalleau or The Missing Scripts.

La discussion dans le cadre de la préparation du prochain numéro du Bulletin Typographique
Nous sommes déjà en 2026, mais on ignore toujours où les archives typographiques se trouvent sur la carte de la culture, ainsi que sur celle de la connaissance sans oublier celle du monde. D’ailleurs, il s’avère même un peu plus facile, de les repérer sur les cartes du monde. On abordera également ce point. En plus, on discutera de la culture de travail dans les archives: qui est apte pour cette activité? quelle est la raison d’être d’une telle culture?

Yesterday we lost a friend, a colleague, and a design legend.
Jean Widmer (1929–2026) was closely associated with the ANRT throughout its history. As early as 1989, he designed, together with the ANCT, Bi-89, a typeface for the signage of the ceremonies marking the bicentennial of the French Revolution. He later taught at the ANRT for ten years, from 1996 to 2006. In the photographs (by Yoann De Roeck), he can be seen in the Atelier in Nancy, on Avenue Boffrand, in June 2002, alongside his colleagues and friends Hans Jurg Hunziker and Peter Keller.

The research projects of Lothaire Arnoux @lothaire_arnx@mastodon.social and Camille Martinet @cmll_mrtnt@typo.social focus on pastoral engravings found in the Merveilles Valley and engraved graffiti in Metz Cathedral, both in France. The projects will be presented during the TAG conference in Vienna from 7–9 November.

On 26 October 2026 in The Hague, ANRT is co-organising the Alphabetica 2: Entering Otherworlds symposium. This international conference explores writing through the prism of intuition, art and dreams.

This week, the ANRT is welcoming Riccardo Olocco and Michele Patanè, who will be leading a workshop on the typefaces of John Baskerville (1706–1775). The workshop forms part of the interdisciplinary research project 'Small Performances', led by the universities of Cambridge and Birmingham.

Gutenberg-Jahrbuch 2025 featuring a custom typeface created by Johannes @ammon@typo.social @ANRT@typo.social 2023–2025
The typeface for the 100th anniversary of the Gutenberg-Jahrbuch draws inspiration from roman types printed in the early 16th century by Johann Schöffer in Mainz. With its extensive character set, it meets the requirements of this multilingual academic publication.

A Typeface for the Gutenberg-Jahrbuch 100, the project of Johannes Ammon @ammon@typo.social 2023–2025
The Gutenberg-Jahrbuch, published yearly since 1926, is a scientific journal on printing, typography, and book history. For its 100th anniversary, Johannes Ammon created a custom typeface inspired by roman types printed in the early 16th century by Johann Schöffer in Mainz.

Phong Hóa was more than just a satirical journal—it was a cultural and visual revolution. Published in early 20th-century Hà Nội, this magazine redefined the landscape of Việtnamese print media with its sharp wit, bold caricatures, and innovative use of typography.
