@glitchypixel @codebyjeff So, if I got this right... a prophet in that sense is more like a guide to a future, rather than one guessing it. And if a true prophet sees a future without claiming to be a prophet, the sum of us are those who build the future.
Not quite sure if that makes sense.

@codebyjeff I am wondering if the term "true prophet" can be valid at all. Anyone can come up with an example? 🤔
Isn't foretelling the future over large timespans in general an act of hubris? Do predictions not always inherit some uncertainty?
Or is it the ambiguity of predictions that can render them true either way?

@rozeboosje @eff I joined the fediverse because someone I valued very much posted on reddit that he will move here and if people wanted to be informed any further by him, they should follow. So I did. Never had an account on reddit, but for that guy, I was willing to sign up for social media for the first time.
I'm pretty sure your move will have an even larger impact. Thank you guys.
Lead by example, then people will follow.

@vees Last year I fiddled around with SIP as I wanted to look up calling numbers from my customer database. Just for fun I then wrote a script which looked up the calling number from a phone scam registry. If it was found, the script waited for the initial silence from the caller and then played a recording of me asking if they could hold on for a second as I had to get the front door urgently. The script then measured the time until the connection was closed.
Record so far is 32 minutes.

Imho, fediverses core feature is to provide a better way of sharing thoughts and insights by text, not hosting media.
Pushing monetary pressure for quotas on such a service imposes a risk on its autonomy and stability.
I must be unaware of some argument that contradicts me... care to enlighten me?
