They are probably running a custom embedded operating system for small size and real time scheduling. While linux is capable of that now its support and implementation is still iffy.

It would only ever cost $4 to watch a video without an ad if an advertiser was willing to spend $4 to show you an ad.
I know I only say 5x to show just how cheap it would actually be to outbid advertisers.

No I wouldnt prompt them at all because the costs would be so low. Even if you paid 5x what an ad pays you’d spend less than a dollar or two a week. But people hate the idea of paying half a cent when visiting a website or watching a youtube video because they think they either shouldnt have to or that it will eventually become $2 to vist that blog and $4 to watch that video and thats a horrible future.

Its a good idea but mentally people hate micro-transactions(transactions that are lower than 10cents) so they get mad every time its suggested. Plus its technically quite challenging to process those kind of transactions efficiently.

Can you give me an example of this happening in real life so I can understand what you mean? I dont see that at all as liberal politician thing. To me it comes off as listing a bunch of things you dont like then labeling it liberal.
Edit: Never mind just realized what instance this taking place on. No point in continuing this discussion.

Even if what you claim is true(its not), isnt that a much better way of maintaining control than other systems. Because without the spin you're basically saying the "government tries to push its population in a desired direction via light influence".

Also the issue he had with Left4dead is present on every distro. Its an issue with the native linux version of the game being broken and its been unfixed by valve for years.

Sorry I didnt realise your “no one else is having these issues” extended to the entire linux space. I’d say thats even more wrong. People are having these kinds of issues on literally every distro. Go into beginner linux spaces and see for yourself. Look at how many people complain about display issues with bazziteKDE its a common issue.

I think they were mostly testing it on their own hardware and didnt weigh up how brand damaging it can be for users to download their distro and use it on random hardware.

Cosmic is not in beta. Its presented as a LTS option front page on system76’s website. Linus does play the lighten rod role for critism but in this one he was completely justified, popOS was a fair choice for a new user and it was a bad experience. Now experienced linux users can see this from a mile away but hes obviously not doing a video about installing linux as an experienced user.

The video is 3 different people not just Linus. PopOS is not an uncommon choice, go into any beginner linux space and you’ll find people installing it all the time.

It should be labeled as beta but its not. Its version 1.something so there is no warning of instability on the download page. Really massive L from system76.

Do you have to draw the line somewhere?
I’m wondering if its a legitmate line of argumentation to draw the line somewhere.
If someone uses an argument and then someone else uses that same argument further down the line, can you reject the first arguments logic but accept the 2nd argument logic?
For example someone is arguing that AI isnt real music because it samples and rips off other artists music and another person pointed out that argument was the same argument logically as the one used against DJs in the 90s.
I agree with the first argument but disagree with the second because even though they use the same logic I have to draw a line in my definition of music. Does this track logically or am I failing somewhere in my thoughts?

There is only an environmental impact in AI in training in the places that have water issues or use fossil fuels on the grid. Otherwise its the same as any other power use.
Plus model training costs arent relevant to firefox. We dont factor in the power usage for creating the linux kernel when we talk about linux or any other software. There isnt any good reason we should care about 3rd party companies power generation costs. I dont think about how much power the steel plant used to build my car nor should I.

none of those features are slop. They are amazingly useful features. Removing them from the hands of average users by putting them behind an extension would make Firefox a much worse option and exclude a ton of people for no reason.
Your opinion is based on nothing and you have no idea what you’re talking about. You’re just a reactionary.

I dont consider any of those features to be bloat. “Harmful to every living thing on the planet” wtf are you referring to here?

So no text to voice/voice to text, no translation, no ocr, no summarization, no scam detection? These are useful ai features to have in a browser IMO.

Is this written by the AI? Its devoid of any substance and the “author” is just pissing and shitting about not having the infrastructure they only realized they want after they started watching NJB videos a few years ago. Horriblely written article, not related to technology at all.
