@dtm@mastodon.cc I know. They are falling into the same conspiracy theory trap the right fell into. Yes, I am outraged that rich and powerful people engaged in such disgusting behavior. But I am even more outraged that government jack-booted thugs are patrolling our streets and gunning down people regardless of their “legal” status. More than that I am even more outraged that one man, if you can call him that, imposed huge taxes on everyone without Congress casting a single vote. More than that, I am outraged that billionaires control all the media outlets that feed us the “news.” More than that I am outraged that our population shrugs it off as a blip on the radar. However, I am most outraged that the only viable alternative, the Democratic Party, still thinks that fundraising and energizing the urban base is the solution. We need a revolution in the Democratic Party before we can have a revolution at the ballot box. PASS THIS ON!!!

The problem with that characterization, just like all the mischaracterizations about urban liberals that conservatives preach, is flawed. Midwest farmers are not part of a monolithic culture. They are diverse in their thinking and struggling like the rest of us. As this article points out, it would take a 3% shift in midwestern red states to destroy the stranglehold the Republican Party has on them. Democrats should be descending on midwestern states and flooding them with organizers and ideas to help local communities. Instead, our party leadership focuses on urban areas and pressing far left agenda that rural voters do not understand. I fear 2026 will be a missed opportunity to bury the conservative movement.

@dtm@mastodon.cc I agree completely with your sentiment. However, I am one who actually depends on government agencies to do my job. I am an historian who does historical research professionally. When the government shuts down, that means the National Archives closes. I can’t do my job, but more importantly, all those people who are National Archives employees can’t do their jobs and don’t get their paychecks. I’ve worked with and known some of those people for decades. I can’t tell you how much pain they go through when these politically motivated shutdowns occur. They are not just mindless bureaucrats. They are people with families, who live by the whims of idiots like Mike Johnson.
