@IcyPalm @notjustbikes I suspect it’s far more simple than that. Your average person likely has zero knowledge of the grid frequency or why it’s important. They don’t know about the duck curve. Transmission is how the electricity gets from their local power plant to their house.

What they do know:

• Solar turns the daylight into electricity
• We need electricity 24/7
• The sun doesn’t shine 24/7
• Batteries don’t last forever (and what if there’s a cloudy week, if …, if …, etc.)
• Therefore, we need a base load that gets us through the night and cloudy days. (What’s a base load? Idk I heard it)
• Nuclear is relatively clean and the scare factor was semi-artificially created by the fossil fuel industry, therefore it must be really good because they’re really bad

It’s the liberal equivalent of “why don’t we just drill more?”

I don’t think it’s some giant conspiracy.

@Techaltar @thibaultmol Not sure about the over/under on a decade, but I was removing those source identifier keys back when I ran a business’ social media account back around 2018. A lot of people bypass the issue by grabbing the URL straight out of their browser, but I sometimes use the time key to have the video start at a specific point, and using their share function is quicker than manually calculating and adding it to the URL.

@applepine @smallcircles Absolutely. Maintaining our networking and discovery (people and resources) is critical. I am still wishing for an advertising/marketing collapse which brings down corporate social media, but I am not hopeful on that one. It would solve a lot of social issues, but it would have happened years ago.

@applepine @smallcircles I don’t think intent really applies to addiction. I certainly believe it is possible for someone to become to social media of any kind, regardless of intentions or feeds or the existence of influencers. All it takes is a feeling of escape from reality and you’re hooked. I think there are ways of monetization that we can’t even dream of, so capitalism will rear its nasty head if we are large enough and they find their way. That said, look at the current web. While it has certainly centralized in most ways, there still exist smaller networks of people. Cut out the corporate webpages and people who only use those, then look the number of users and webpages today versus say 1995. I’d imagine there are simply a lot more people and webpages which simply get overshadowed. The web is still here if you get off the beaten path. Corporations win by making consumption easy.

@ni@hostux.social @paninid@mastodon.world This is definitely in the Needs Information category. So far, those emails only show Epstein drafting emails to Gates about it. Without an email from Gates to Epstein about it, we can’t treat it as fact. Alternatively, if we find evidence that Gates was at Epstein’s island several weeks before these emails, then again a week after, it could suggest the story is true but the real emails got deleted. It’s a rumor until we find out whether it’s true.
