I've been using a combination of Opentracks for GPS/map and gadgetbridge+PAIesque with an amazfit neo and Decathlon HRM band for metrics and analysis for about a week now, and it's honestly just inferior in every single way compared to my Coros Pace 2. If streaming in 256kbit/s only required 256kbit/s actual connection, your math is correct...in reality it will need higher bandwidth to stream seamlessly at that bitrate.

Is there any technical reason it cannot be done in a privacy respecting manner? It should be possible to collect a location and speed from a phone with absolutely no other data attached from the device and store this in a database. This would provide a database of anonymous traffic density in a state of flux. You cannot see which phone is which data point, where it is coming from or where it is going to. The only real reason I can see this is not done is surveillance capitalism.

If anyone I don’t know, including banks, police, government officials etc. called out of the blue and ask me to join a video call, I’d just hang up. That just screams “scam” in your face.

Regarding age verification I definitely think that things we generally don’t allow kids access to in real life i would make sense to age restrict online as well. Sifting through information to find out what’s true and what’s not, before presenting it to the public, is a pretty crucial task and ability for an actual journalist though. It is probably one of the most important parts of their job to verify the correctness of their sources and what they write.

To get them repaired you have to take them to an authorised dealer which is basically just them Meh, not entirely true though. Anything related to “regular” car parts like brakes, suspension etc. can be fixed by any regular mechanic. As for things like handles, you can actually also just order the part from them and have any mechanic change itif you can’t/won’t do it yourself. Yes there are things you unfortunately would need them for, but most of the things that tend to break or wear out are regular car parts anyone can fix.
