It is less fun because having the wind in your hair and risk of instant death is fun.

Biden and Harris's support of Isreal was within reasonable bounds even if you think they should have been more/less heavy handed. Harris was pushing for resolution, more aid, restrictions on munitions and withholding operations until civilians had been evacuated.
Trumps support of isreal was and still is deranged. He was talking about turning gaza to glass, moving them "somewhere else", letting a far right hardliner do whatever he wants.
If you were drawing that equivalent then you must be over the moon because you got exactly what you wanted. The destruction and death of hundreds of thousands of peoples lives.

There is different regulations all around the world so its probably got enough regulation. I dont think patent trolling is an actual problem im not aware of it happening at a meaningful scale.
A worse problem is AI basically destroying copyright overnight but only for some cases. This creates such a horribly asymmetric environment where big companies are blatantly ignoring copyright while other industries still have to respect it.

This would make sense if google play store wasnt full of malware. Scammers dont need you to sideload malicious apps they just get you to download it from the play store.

I know how he could of fixed things thats not the point. The point is these are linux issues that I dont fault a new user for running into.
He didnt need to do more research the video shows 3 different approaches, searching/ai, searching reddit, having basic experience from immersion.
If he had gone and picked something no user would ever pick maybe I’d have an issue but popOS is still commonly picked and recommended and its fine for him to bring to attention how shit it is for new users.
Overall I think the video was linux positive and I’m expecting the whole series to show linux favourably. I’m hoping the community reaction to ep1 doesnt change that. Theyve been insufferable.

I agree and wouldnt recommended it either but ultimately the devs shouldn’t be putting cosmic up just yet especially in the LTS. People will always recommend the most random shit when it comes to distros combine that with those dogshit listsites and AI new users should be encouraged to try multiple just to not have them getting stuck on one thinking its representative.

Gaming distros are great. They come with preconfigured drivers, controller setups, emulators, gamescope. Kernel patches, latest git for new game compatibility.

There are a lot of tweaks that even experienced users wouldnt think to make and it all adds up to the experience of plugging stuff in and playing games be seemless.

Actually people have been asking them to do more linux content and to try out linux. Especially in the last 6 months with windows having controversy after controversy. You probably didnt watch but it was a positive video about linux and none of the issues were his fault or outside what I’d expect a new user to run into.

I just saw pop recommended on this community. Its still got a ton of people who’ve had good experiences recommending it. But they might not know it now defaults to cosmic.

Really? All the linux vet YouTubers have run into countless really really bad bugs when using cosmic. I dont think its anywhere near stable. I have nothing against pop, my only issue is them shipping cosmic to early with no disclaimer or warning.

Not 1 million but i can see it reaching a few hundred k. The niche topics on reddit came from average people browsing and average people will never browse Lemmy.
In my dream world linux gets massive with gamers and they seek open source alternatives and that boosts users. Gamers are pretty mixed gender and age these days so it’ll be a good batch of people. I hope America gets it shit together and stops fucking up the world because its depressing the dialogue here a lot.

Its just a shit article lazily posted because the headline further radicalizes people. Low quality articles like this should be banned because they lower the IQ of everyone who reads it and misinform anyone who doesn’t.

On one hand this is the death of independent sites funding themselves off organic traffic. On the other hand these sites were shit and should have died a long time ago.
They’ll still exist just moved off to social media instead.

I have no idea how you put up with that. I would not accept that from any ISP router. If my ISP router has any issue I can ship it back for free and receive a brand new one a few days later. There should also be options for bringing your own router.

yes but how often does your internet go down? I agree with the sentiment and I hate this but we should think about this from an average user perspective when we make our argument. Internet doesnt go down, I’ve had more electricity outages than internet outages in the past 5 years. if you live in a city its a rare thing.
The reason why people shouldnt want this in my opinion is not because its day to day worse but because its worse long term. These companies will offer it at a low price to entice you then yank the rug out from under you. You will never be safe with an option like this because at any time it can be taken from you and one day there might not be an alternative market of computers to purchase.

Thats fine, uploading the ID doesnt have to be safer. The parents can judge the risk of their child using that platform and upload their ID to verify if they want. I'm pointing out that the child isnt prevented from communicating with friends or even using social media.

This whole article seems fishy.
>While some young people were exposed to harmful content and bullying online, for Indy, social media was always a safe space. If she ever came across anything that felt unsafe, she says, she would ask her parents or sisters about it.
If thats the case why dont her parents just use their I'd to verify an account for her? Also it only blocked a few platforms and there are still plenty of ways to communicate with friends.

I feel nothing due to this being constant escalation for what feels like forever now. I have to tell myself this is fucking insane and we are watching a huge shift that completely upends the balance of power in my region.
Watching my local news feels so quiet there is like 1hr of actual news every month and the rest is just slop reporting on what peoples favourite ice cream is, carcrashes or violent crime.

You’re right. I have no idea how I read your initial comment and jump to that conclusion. I must have been tired when i replied.
For the actual response. I think this law does partial combat the misinformation, advertising and brainwashing concerns. I dont think we can/need to prevent misinformation, advertising or brainwashing for people over 16 without serious infringement on civil liberties.
For algorithm’s its far less feasible to go after. These companies protect the algorithm because its the core IP of their business. Its not something we can simply get rid of without destroying the most popular feature of the platform.

Well that would be a much bigger line to cross. Its reasonable to say under 16s are to young to navigate the world of online info. But its completely different to say no age can go on the internet.

It seems to be popular with people i talk to in real life. It also seems go be very popular with leftwing people outside niche internet spaces like this. Most people are viewing this as a good way to prevent misinformation brainwashing and not paying attention to the removal of internet freedom. From talking to these people its because they dont think there is internet freedom as internet is only 5 sites which all spy on you already.
