I highly recommend an excellent documentary, Coup 53 (2019).It’s about how the British spy agency MI6 and the American CIA orchestrated a coup against the democratically elected and incorruptible Mossadegh. CIA propped Shah’s regime and helped create an oppressive secret police.
It’s a must-watch film to understand what’s unfolding. Western powers hate to have democratic leaders in oil-rich countries. They much prefer greedy and corrupt autocrats.

Theocracy in Iran is a foul regime. But so is a genocidal apartheid state. Why punish one on behalf of the other? And what have American taxpayers got to do with it all?

There’s no shared Western civilization between Europe and the US. Europe and the US are so different in mores, religiosity and tolerance for violence. By Western civilization, does Rubio mean “white people first” “we can kill any non-whites at will”? If this is the case, it’s easy to understand why the US obsesses about immigration. The increase of new citizens who do not believe in the white man’s impunity is gravely inconvenient.

If you are a big client of the US military industry, you can use US-made weapons to wipe out an entire population. Starving an entire population is a standard practice. It’s called sanctions. Cuba, Gaza, Venezuela. It happens all the time.

Family photo from the early 1920s, Redondela (Pontevedra, Galicia). We have a 30-year-old in the family who looks exactly like his great-grandfather in this photo. It's just like in García Márquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude. People die and come back again.
