Discussing some particle physics with a friend: You know, particle physics feels like an exasperated GM that is completely fed up with the players trying to dig more lore out of them. - What are things made out of? - Small particles that vibrate - Okay, what are those particles made of? - Uh... even smaller particles and tiny specks of electricity that orbit them. - Okay, what are those made up of? - You know what? Even tinier particles that go speeeen! - Okay, why do they spin? - I won't tell you, and if you try to observe them, they behave differently. Can we PLEASE just continue with the story?

Today on "How is this the state of the art!?": ssh-agent I just learned that you may get locked out of your server due to too many authentication requests because the ssh-agent protocol has zero provisions for prefiltering keys and just blindly tries everything in your database until one of them goes through. Is there a security reason why ssh can't send the host's hash to the agent to tell it what server it should return the key for? #sshAgent #ssh

@TechSupport@equestria.social Adding a mangle rule that clamps MSS seems to have fixed it. For some reason linux sends higher than advisable MSS to some hosts and I guess pmtud is getting swallowed from that subnet so it can't correct itself? This is all still very fresh knowledge to me so correct me if I'm being a dumbass xP

@TechSupport@equestria.social I'm gonna buy you whatever drink you would like if we ever meet. The first packet that doesn't return is supposed to be ~4200 bytes large! It does seem to be a fragmentation issue. And it's possible that Azure's load balancer or proxy or something really likes to send large packets that break the connection, which would explain the subnet specificity.

Been troubleshooting the weirdest connectivity issue at home. My current setup is a GPON router provided by my ISP with PPPoE Passthrough enabled. Then I have a Mikrotik router plugged into that which connects to PPPoE and receives an IPv6 prefix to spread via SLAAC. It all works perfectly fine... Except when I try to connect to a specific Microsoft-controlled subnet (2620:1ec::/36) via HTTPS a few packets go missing on the way to me that causes the connection to hang and eventually time out. I've sniffed the connection at every part of the chain I could. On the router itself, by inserting a switch with traffic mirroring enabled between the Mikrotik and ISP router, and it seems that some packets just don't arrive. It seems to specifically be https that is affected, and only when connecting to that specific subnet. And for extra fun, if I just plug into the ISP router (which has a separate prefix delegated because I can't switch it to plain bridge mode) everything works fine.

@jbcrawford@hachyderm.io This is a proper puzzle! I think it's supposed to say - Clean lint filter in the machine - Put your clothes in, close the door - Press one of the buttons marked in white to select your program (there are two models of washers, one is missing the top right button) - No need to pay / Insert coins / insert banknotes / pay via paypass - Press the bottom right button to start (again, the machine might be missing the top right button) Though I don't take responsibility for any fires caused, limbs lost, or monetary damage incurred for following this interpretation, and I hope the designer had a similar disclaimer written into their contract. :3
