Since policing is devolved in Scotland, right away I know "the country" means basically England, which the newsreader confirms a moment later. Sigh, the Anglo-biased blinkers of the BBC, where supposedly trained journalists make basic errors like that regularly (and most don't even notice, because, well, blinkers, Scotland doesn't really register with them)

So, after a year-long, multi million pound enquiry which found massive failings and outright falsehoods to cover their own arses by police, Starmer's increasingly authoritarian government wants even more power for those same cops that we just saw suffer no consequences even when their actions lead to fatalities.
