@clauseggers@typo.social Product designers have been using 5th degree Bezier curves for smooth connections and curvature visualization long before SpeedPunk existed. I want to combine 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th degree curves in one single path. Apple & MS fonts use 2nd, Adobe 3rd degree, which, with enough grid and experience is just good enough. It is unlikely that higher Bézier curve orders will be implemented in standard fonts any time soon. https://www.lucasfonts.com/learn/interpolation-curve-technicalities

I still find more than half a million microscopic .glif files, occupying 8 Kb block size, painlessly slow to copy, index or backup, that I want to get rid of. To save electricity, server sanity and disk space. How many .glif files do you count?
Save the planet, kill UFOs! 🙂

@justvanrossum @jenskutilek We do care about version control, and we do collaborate and document (some assumptions you made!) but we do agree that gazillion .glif files (thousands identically named) are a total file nightmare and environmentally unsane.

@typemytype @jenskutilek No, I used (manual) hinting to get much better screen bitmap fonts, in LetraSet FontStudio 1991-2002. (we convert all UFOs to UFOZ)

@typemytype @jenskutilek Hm, I'm older than you calculated: source files rather have 10 to 30 thousand glyphs, and contain hints, so UFOs are forbidden :-)

@jenskutilek Since .vfb is by far the most efficient font file container that I know of, how about ufo2vfb? :-) If I convert my 118432 vfb files to UFO, I'll need an extra disk or two.

@eWalthert@typo.social @jenskutilek@typo.social That is not our font. It looks worse than auto-hinting, maybe a Dutch bargain conversion :-)
