Online communities are increasingly impacted by GenAI -- and responding to it. In this new paper we looked at the response via analysis of AI-related rules, inspired in great part by papers on Reddit Rules from @cfiesler@hci.social et al and Community Archetypes from @bkeegan@hci.social et al. Travis has the details:

Always loved the stuff at @ICA_CAT@mastodon.social but never contributed much -- happy to be on the paper from @marianne@hci.social and Madiha which received a top paper award! Great company with the other papers, too.

Is anyone here also on Threads? I am surprised our social computing community is not there yet. Or at least not visibly so. Wait [scary realization] are you guys STILL ON TWITTER?

I hope @andresmh@hci.social doesn't pull a Musk and ban me from hci.social for linking to the competition but if you are thread-ing find me there:

🚨New Pub at PNAS🚨! We know people cannot detect language written by AI. But what makes them THINK text was AI-generated? We show that people have consistent heuristics... that are flawed & can be exploited by AI to create text "more human than human" 🧵

(apologies, rare cross-posting from Twitter -- in fact, rare posting on Twitter altogether).

An AI test from 1971 shows you need to adjust your #ChatGPT expectations.

In 1971, Terry Winograd devised the Winograd Schemas, simple sentence understanding tasks that require the use of knowledge and commonsense reasoning. Humans understand them easily. ChatGPT... not so much.
