It’s absolutely causing problems, especially for me, who is one of the only lines of defense keeping stuff even remotely maintainable.

The next step is, CEO, look at how good these non-mobile devs are, they’re submitting 10x the commits to the mobile repo than boraginoru our mobile dev! We should fire him and just let the backend devs keep vibe coding it!

>It's the people that try to use LLMs for things outside their domain of expertise that really cause the problems. That seems to general. Im a mobile developer and sometimes I need a simple script outside my knowledge area. I needed to scrape a website recently, not for anything serious, but to save me time. Claude wrote it and it works. Its probably trash code, but it works and it helped. But you wouldn't want me using Claude to do important work outside my specific area of focus either or im sure Id cause problems.

I never even considered the insurance side there. But it is legit proof of delivery and it gives them at least a chance of recovery if someone fucks up cleaning them.

Oh I honestly didnt understand there’s a perpetual database you can go back and look at, I didnt even know i had one on android, I just turned that off. I understood it as they need a database to hold the notifications you should be shown and it gets purged eventually kinda thing. As a history it makes sense, and that its something that can leak. Also if you leave it on, uninstalling an app should definitely purge its history.

If its not signed its easier to fake and people would be at risk of installing malicious software. Its Microsofts platform so it needs the Microsoft signature. You dont have to sign it, but signing it has benefits. And while Microsoft can revoke it, that doesnt mean they cant still ship the unsigned software.

You can still install them, they announced the rules weeks ago. You need to go into the phone settings and enable developer mode (this doesn’t mean YOU’RE a developer) Flip a setting to on that will allow it See some scary prompts and acknowledge no one is asking you to do this Reboot the phone (its intended to cut off communication with who might be scamming you). (edit: I think this reboot step specifically is a clever idea) Wait 24 hours. Install the app From there you can keep the phone in the ‘unlocked’ state, or allow it to relock after 7 days. I’m not saying this is good, but it IS still possible.

Hey just FYI, if you do decide to get something, the AC180 is last years model and is upgraded by the Elite 100v2 even though they still sell the AC180. There’s a comparison on the elite 100 page about half way down, but if space is one of your concerns, it’s smaller, and 12lbs lighter for only 130wh less. It also chargers faster from solar than the AC180, but a little slower from wall power. With 1800 watt output power (3600 surge) it can run anything a normal 120v outlet can run before tripping a circuit breaker, which will include any coffee machine, however if the coffee machine uses the whole 15amps, it’ll only run for around 45 minutes. I have the 100 and really like it bluettipower.ca/…/elite-100-v2-portable-power-sta…

There’s usually more than 1 way to do something. Sometimes people get caught up on wanting to do it the best way, and then they just dont do it at all. If there’s an easier, less ideal, maybe slightly more wasteful way to do something, and its the difference between doing it or not, just do it that way and dont get hung up on perfection if the alternative is not getting it done. If its something that needs to be built into a habit, it might be enough to get you started, and then maybe you can move on to the better way in the future.

I just wanted to add another note Even if this ozone thing turns out to not be true, there are still all sorts of other things being burned up in the atmosphere that can have other potential effects. It all needs to be studied. I wouldn’t be surprised if 50-60 years from now, if there is a real issue, that it eventually comes out that SpaceX or other mega constellation companies figured out it would be a problem, and just said nothing. Much like how big oil new CO2 was a problem forever ago and hid it.

It’s possible it could go to a higher orbit, but we don’t have mega constellations in those orbits. I’m don’t know enough to know how far something could get flung up either, but I suspect if you’re in a 5y orbit, you aren’t reaching a 50y orbit area, and probably not even a 10y orbit area.

Ya, the economies of how much total space / material for the global network is similar, although lets say higher due to losses in efficiency in distributing it over so many dishes, but in terms of how big any individual radiator is and how much space each one is going to take, the smaller sizes make it easier to manage. Trying to figure out a 150-200m^2^ solar panel is a lot easier than trying to figure out a 1km^2^ The individual power of each satellite having to use a mesh network to train might not be fast enough, maybe they’ll still use land based ones for training, but no single person needs more compute than what a satellite can provide. So from the inference / customer computation side of things, it isn’t a problem.

We already radiate heat away just fine in space, it’s just a matter of how much space do you need to use to do it and all the implications of what that would mean for any given satellite. I wouldn’t call it free, because you need the hardware to do it and the extra weight reduces the payload capacity of whatever you’re sending up, but we can do it. Starlink also uses laser links to talk to each other which these satellites would also use. So you go up from land, bounce around with lasers in space until you’re close to your ground station, then come back to earth and route to your home. Fiber is still the better option on land if you can get it there, but there are a lot of places it’s never going to get laid.

If they stop working they will just de-orbit it early, or if they can’t cause it’s really broken, they’ll just wait the ~5-10 years to come down on it’s own.

You can't afford the $300 winter boots, so you buy the $100 ones that fall apart in 2 seasons instead of lasting a decade.

We have such copious amounts of excess power but its all in off peak times. We need to build batteries or other storage methods so we can capture it in off peak hours. We should force these data centers to help foot the bill for that instead of doing the stupid shit they’re doing like portable generators, bring coal plants back online and what not.

Australia isn’t the greatest spot to run a data centre in general in terms of heat, but I do understand the need for sovereign data centres, so this obviously can’t work everywhere. What makes you think $3.5 million can’t be profitable? A mid sized hospitals heating bill can get into the many hundreds of thousands or into the millions even. Especially if it’s in a colder environment. A 5-6 year payback on that wouldn’t be terrible. These colder locations are the ideal locations for the data centres in the first place because they generally want a cooler climate to begin with.

Foe the record my stance was if your stance was below. AI is a crutch for dumb people. I never said you had to like it or not liking it makes you an idiot.
