I agree that we can judge the creator, at least initially. However, this is like Pandora’s box where you can’t put the contents back in. If falsified content is released that tarnishes the reputation of someone else, that will spread beyond the original creator and stay in the public domain for years. It’s not inconceivable that we enter a world of faked videos depicting speeches, war crimes, sexual affairs, etc that may very well be fakes, and they will get harder and harder to distinguish from reality

I’m still not convinced that either of these are good uses…. What scares me is that we once had to read political platforms to elect someone and to look to the newspapers or evening news to help us stay informed. And as technology progressed, we have found dumber and dumber reasons to form opinions about global events - we don’t like someone’s voice, or they wore the wrong outfit, or the building looks shabby. And now we enter a world where we are going to judge people and events based on fabricated material, which I find terrifying.

I’m pretty sure mine did too, but I’m learning to make it work to my advantage where possible and to keep myself away from places I don’t thrive.

Oh my goodness, this hits close to home. I’m having to donate so many tea sets, figurines, and decorative plates from my grandparents. I feel guilty because they clearly loved them and paid good money for them, but I just can’t house this amount of clutter if I’m never going to use it. Royal Doulton must have made a fortune off their generation.

That’s why my grandmother made such overdone roasts. I just thought I didn’t like roast beef much until I tried it medium rare instead of charred to a grey cube of leather.

We had a great 10 year old office-grade printer that kicked the bucket two years ago. Since then we have been through 5 office-grade printers of varying brands and they are all crap. If you have something that’s been around for a decade, stroke it gently, give it some treats, and tell it what a good printer it is, because that printer is irreplaceable

When I was a teenager I’d write down questions that occurred to me throughout the day in an agenda, so I would be able to look them up next time I went to the library. I still did the same when we got internet - I’d have a list of things to search at home that evening. Now we have the bulk of human knowledge at our fingertips and we use it to get likes and followers.

From Canada, this sounds especially ominous. We don’t have enough of a human population to fend off 300M Americans, so I think we need to focus our efforts on grizzly bear and wolf breeding programs.

I can’t describe how many patients I see in an average week who are taking homeopathic stuff for their dental diseases and ask me hopefully if it’s working. No, magic toxin water has not cured your gingivitis or rebuilt your cavitated tooth.

I think about that often. The people who have the most kids are generally the ones who can’t afford them and have a harder time providing extra-curricular activities or those with more extreme religious beliefs who may opt out of scientific education. If your average Mormon has 3-4 kids and your average astrophysicist has 1-2, the population trend must eventually follow.

I’m fascinated by the existence of so many foods. Who decided to boil tree sap for 3 weeks to make maple syrup? Who agitated cows milk vigorously for 20 minutes to discover butter? Who saw cheese for the first time and decided to still eat moldy milk? I thank those nameless humans for their service to society.

A big chunk of American administration is salivating over the idea of geopolitical collapse. Sure, maybe a few might refuse, but that just means they will find a replacement or find leverage that convinces the person to follow orders. Think of Nazi Germany. While some soldiers followed horrific orders gleefully, many others did them because hurting someone else prevented retaliation against themselves or their families. It’s easy to say you’d never hurt anyone, but harder to adhere to if you’re watching a gun aimed at your child’s head.
