I think the point they're trying to make is that racism is a state of mind, and opening oneself up to being racist against a non-human or imaginary thing can open the floodgates to more "real" forms of racism against fellow humans. Basically the difference between anthropomorphizing bots while one expresses their dislike for interacting with them vs. expressing one's dislike of being forced to interact with a machine that is made to feel like interacting with a person but isn't. I'm not sure how I feel about this sentiment I've described, but it's one I'm open to arguments on since as a white dude I come into it with a mountain of privilege that likely blinds my view of things

I happened sat near one of the guys who did that when I worked at a bank. Basically any transaction that was slightly outside of normal he’d look at, look at who the customer is and go “oh yeah it’s spring and the construction company is spending more on supplies just like every year, oh but what is Darla doing right now that looks odd? Jimmy’s deposit for his new motorcycle got flagged but that’s pretty obviously what it is…” You get the gist. Also a high chance that every mobile check deposit photo gets reviewed by a human being too. I saw so many communications about scummy companies sending fake checks as marketing and people misunderstanding and trying to deposit them, or just blatant fraud that might pass an automated verification but is obvious upon human review Banking is one of the few industries that still relies heavily on human review for basically everything because it’s so heavily regulated. But also it’s one of the few industries that hasn’t super consolidated down to a handful of companies so you can quite easily go to a small community bank that’s locally owned and operated. And that’s also partially thanks to regulations as well. I remember the bank I was working at really wanted to open a couple of new branches but they were severely limited due to it being in a different state and some other laws that weren’t fully explained to me

I'm a strong believer in requiring all office/majority computer using roles to be at least hybrid if for no other reasons than to take cars off the road, but the societal benefits of mass remote work are immense. I've worked remotely more than not since 2020 (and that's with 5 job changes since 2020 somehow) and if I got to pick, I'd work a hybrid role where I go to the nice office and bullshit with my coworkers about all the little things that weren't worth writing an email or Teams message about a few days a month, then go home and crank out the real work the rest of the time. And with kids, they clearly appreciate me being at home more than at the office even if I do have to shoe them away fairly frequently.

As someone who builds a ton of dashboards for executives they absolutely do! It's also very obvious when an executive finally gets replaced who hasn't been pulling their weight because I'll suddenly learn that 3 of the dashboards we made for them have been broken for multiple years without anyone noticing

Latest jobs report showed a reduction in total jobs in the economy of 80k. The recession that's been trying to happen for years is finally about to happen. It's really hilarious because economic indicators were all looking super good going into the 2024 election, and even jobs were starting to show some growth after being a bit slow following the insanity of 2021-22. Trump could simply walked in and went to sleep and the economy would be in brilliant shape right now but instead we have this

Yeah gas prices (about the only commodity that normies interact with) have only gone up by like 30-40 cents per gallon, about the same price they were 6-12 months ago. Normies only wake up once it gets to around $4/gallon or about a full dollar per gallon more than usual. The last time gas prices went over $4 a gallon I heard many drivers of excessively large gas guzzling SUVs and Trucks complaining that they couldn't fully fill their tanks due to the $100 limit on most gas pumps. The $4 mark was also when people started actually making choices to drive less (and voicing these choices) and if it was sustained they seemed likely to choose to replace their vehicles with something more efficient

Y'know what, I honestly haven't looked at what the PCIe lane layout is like on newer chipsets. Maybe it's gotten better since I last really paid attention like 5+ years ago. I remember in early-mid AM4 there was a lot of grumbling about how there's only 20 PCIe 3 lanes followed by early PCIe 4 platforms that would give only 16-20 lanes with another 8 or so PCI 3 lanes. I also didn't really pay much attention to AMD before AM4 given how far behind Intel they were. But I could be entirely out of date now that I think about it
