Is it just me or anyone else feels like a part of the free software ecosystem is crumbling? Maintainers burning out, mentorship capacity decreasing, widespread usage of LLMs making our jobs harder, massive layoffs… And maybe something to do with how the U.S. soft power is in rapid decline too?

We’re studying things like recommender systems, neural networks, etc. this semester and I once more can’t help but think a lot of the paradigms and “advancements” come from a place of either conceptualizing the world as limitless in resources and/or not caring at all that there _is_ a limit.

working in very small teams at non-profits for almost a decade made me get used to directly running operations and taking over strategic roles, so it's been an interesting change to delegate a lot of operational tasks at the lab because my time is better spent elsewhere
