Regardless of what issue is your primary, environmentalism, antifascism, rights to freedom of speech and privacy, unionization, anticapitalism, etc, etc, ALL of them, if you lose the ability to communicate in opposition, whereby you not only lose the ability to public discourse on life essential matters regarding all of our lives, but also lose the ability to organize for offline activism, to knowledge sharing, etc, to these schemes fraudulently presented as "age verification" which actually intends total online identification, online panopticon, enabling even retroactive retaliation if some totalitarians grab power later and track down all their past opponents, enabled by these current "age verification" mechanisms, then you and we all will have lost everything. There is literally no more important issue for you, no matter your priorities, because it is the foundation for everything else which is being removed.

Do your jobs Reuters. Journalist. There ARE local independent sources. Use them. Do NOT spread extremely probable disinformation. That is the opposite of your supposed jobs. In which case it would actually have been better if you remained quiet, as you are on all the labor strikes and daily public protests in Iran during non-hype times when you can't help but being forced to report. I believe the current Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey and former Director of MİT, Hakan Fidan, should explain why on their hate- and -disinformation platform "X" account they have as banner picture with Turkey superimposed over half of Africa, Greece, Iberia, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Armenia, Georgia, and large parts of France and Germany. Keeping in mind there are several high ranking politicians of Turkey who have explicitly publicly called for resubjugation of the entire Ottoman Empire, which matches large parts of that, plus a bit more, as well as that the Erdoğan-regime has been directly involved in (sent e.g. forcibly conscripted children from Syria to) the war in Libya, been drone-bombing supplier in the Tigray Genocide, etc. Beyond of course the National Pact, Misak-ı Millî.

Places where I have seen reports of explosions in Iran now: Abadan, Ahvaz, Bandar Abbas, Karaj, Khorramshahr, Parand, Qasr-e Shirin and Tabriz Main story of regime statements seems to be "there was a gas explosion in a building", but for example the building in Bandar Abbas was reportedly newly constructed so didn't have gas yet. And it's extremely unlikely that they would spontaneously self-ignite at about the same time, while there also coincidentally are missiles and military airplanes flying. I can of course not confirm anything directly... I'm not there.

It's as if an actor while playing a part in a movie or stage play does something despicable, we do get emotionally affected by their work. That's how humans work. We were not evolved adapting for a possibility of emulated humans existing, so we can not be expected to respond differently whether subconsciously or not.

@crazyeddie@mastodon.social Yes, as you suggest we can not really really know what happened, as even if it would have been a "conversational" model we can not actually trust that they tell the truth especially regarding their own past actions, as the linguistic statistical probability that the LLMs use to produce sentences also include replicating statistically probable behaviors of deception when asked to explain own failures as humans tend to. Number+1 is apparently too difficult for Google's self-contradicting resource-wasting "AI" summary. :-D My own screenshot, just now, because I saw it claimed that this would result and... it did. NEVER trust Gemini (Google's imposed "AI Mode"), even for the absolutely most basic functionality.
