I’m making good progress again; China writes an extremely dense and meandering first half to this book. It’s an effort to get through. Near the mid-point, though, it’s definitely cohering into a more pointed narrative and feels increasingly rewarding. I’m feeling right now like it’s sitting on a razors edge between pretentious and brilliant, but it’s leaning more and more towards being incredibly smart sci-fi that just takes a long time to get going. Looking forward to finishing it up in the near future.

Review of "Scott Pilgrim Color Collection Vol. 1" (4 stars): Still Entertaining Re-Reading Years Later

Scott Pilgrim, to this day, still feels unique. That alone feels like quite an accomplishment to me. Starting to re-read the series years later, after plenty of critique and an entire Netflix series that pretty much acknowledges that Scott sucks and too much attention was given to him, still reveals an honest and messy look at growing up. Colour work is good in these new editions, the dialogue is still snappy, and the story moves at a good pace.

A fantastic look at the cultural and business evolution of one of the biggest names in video game development over the last 30 years. Clearly the labour of a lot of work, it goes in depth on the history and culture of Blizzard Entertainment, for all its failures and successes. Perhaps goes a little light on some of the worse aspects of their history, but I understand that there was only so much space to give each topic. Excellent.

Stylish with an interesting exploration of a post-internet future. Felt like relatively standard P.I. stuff, but done competently with a few interesting twists. Enjoyable.
