“You are being too logical, too rational.” Volva declared, cheerfully. “You assume that rational discussions will sway the money. They don’t care about logic. Only power. The power money gives them.”
“So we have learned,” Mary agreed. “The hard way. Why are you smiling?”
“The only thing they would fear is more power. Someone more powerful than them and their money.”
Jake nodded hesitantly. “Okay, with you so far. But where do we find that someone? Who is our champion? You?”
Volva leaned in eagerly. “Planet Earth. Mother Nature. We blame the attacks on Gaia. She’s seen the abuses from the foundry, from others. She’s attacking them to stop them. What was that old ad campaign? ‘You don’t want to make Mother Nature angry!’”
Jake leaned back, stunned. “Anger. Fear. Emotions. Mythology. Emotions trump rational thought every time. We’ve been blind.”
Mary and Volva both said, “Mythology?”
Jake blushed. “Okay, I know she’s real,” he stammered. “But … c’mon. You know what I meant.”
Volva smiled. “I know a person who might help. A friend. I’ll call you.” She left.
