Blog - #Books in February 2026
TL:DR; 7 books, 2,155 pages. 3 novels, 2 non-fiction, 2 roleplaying.
Highlight of the month was @cstross@wandering.shop’s “The Regicide Report”, which brought the Laundry Series to an end.
Antti Tuomainen’s “The Winter Job” was fun with a wry humour.
Underwhelmed by “Project Hail Mary” (Andy Weir), which felt too much like “The Martian” for me.

@tek@freeradical.zone Hint: try layering it on your sandwich with (a) peanut butter, OR (b) really strong mature cheddar.

@cstross@wandering.shop People keep telling me to try it with peanut butter! Now I must, For Science™. I'm intrigued by the cheddar idea, and I'll give it a go.

@tek@freeradical.zone Just bear in mind Marmite is *strong*—treat it like a condiment, not a primary ingredient. (If you slather your food in it like jam or peanut butter you will regret it.)

@cstross@wandering.shop @tek@freeradical.zone I can still remember my grandmother slathering it thickly on buttered toast for me when I was recovering from a sore throat.
Yes, I ate it.

@cstross@wandering.shop @rgammans@dice.camp @bjn@mstdn.social @AspiringLuddite@medievalist.masto.host @losttourist@social.chatty.monster @tek@freeradical.zone Bovril isn’t a brewer’s yeast extract, although it is made by the same company. Very different!
