Just saved $150 by cleaning my own pool filter. I also now know why people charge $150 for this. Fuuuuck.
In other news, I did something I've been planning to do for the last year or so - changed my kid's and my cellphone plans. Were paying way too much and not using half what I was paying for. He was $79/mo, I was $69/mo. Now we're down to $40 each. Lost the Disney/Hulu bundle, but that's ok as I rarely used it. I MIGHT however switch in the Netflix/HBOMax bundle for $10/mo extra.

Given that the going price to clean a pool filter is $150 for about 30 mins work I’m going to give it a shot soon as I finish lunch. 7/8 socket wrench- check. Dead blow mallet - check. Spare o ring and lube for it - check. Nervous as hell but fuck it, anything to save a buck these days. If I die I die.
Hopefully the worst that will happen is that my back is buggered up for a few days. 🤞

Okay, let the record show - I have 98% converted from Windows to Mac.
Is Windows more capable as an OS in a general sense? Absolutely yes.
What do I still use on Windows that I can't do on Mac? Pop Peeper and TheBat. Also, I can use my RTX3080, and my 16-core CPU is still faster for multicore activity like transcoding.
Why do I choose Mac? iCloud support for everything, meaning my phone and computers work better in harmony. If Windows had that I wouldn't leave. Ecosystem is everything.

For me right now, there are two really annoying things about AI. I know you can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs, but in amongst the delight there are issues that are really bugging me.
1) hard drive prices
2) every reel on IG, FB, Threads etc being presented to me appears to be artificially generated. I get videos of hippos shitting into the faces of hyenas ALL the time, or weird robot dancing girls etc.
Oh. And 3) The stock market plummetting. I can do without all three.

God, I can see why everyone's going ga-ga over #AI assistance. I had an app crash on me just then and it brings up this big stack trace dumpski where I can send it to Apple or not. I copied the entire text, saved it to a file and loaded up Perplexity.ai. Asked if it could analyze it for it and it said yep, gimme. Uploaded the trace and ziggity zam it gives me the tech detail and then the human understandable shit telling me why the app crashed.
I feel my brain vaporizing. For real.

Every time I set up computer stuff, with all the peripherals and this and that I hook to them I wind up with a giant mess of wires - power cables, video, audio, USB. Always spaghetti. How do other people get around this or tidy it up? I know I can use wireless mouse and kb, but I'm special needs for both of them. I need those both wired.
I could ask perplexity or one of the others, I suppose.

Triple fisting random shows on Netflix. The remake of How To Train Your Dragon was just released, CGI with life action (ie Roger Rabbitized) and it’s kinda fun so far. Also watching Wednesday again, got a few episodes into that with my wife a couple years ago when it came out then stopped. Aaand an older series, Falling Skies, just because I learned that Noah Wyle is in it.
God that reminds me, gotta start the new series of The Pitt!
