“Bartosz Cichocki, Poland’s ambassador in Ukraine, remained in Kyiv and a couple of hours later he was summoned to the embassy to receive a classified telegram from Warsaw. It was a curt one-paragraph text, stating that the invasion would start that night.”
“After reading the telegram several times, Cichocki went outside to get some fresh air. He saw the people of Kyiv going about their business on a winter’s evening, a jarringly normal scene given what he now knew. People were checking the playbill at a theatre across the street, and part of him wanted to run, shouting, to tell them that war was coming and there would be no more performances. My friends in the USA often ask about the “peace negotiations” and I tell them it’s all BS, strictly performative. #Ukraine, of course, desperately wants the war to be over and needs to keep showing that it’s open to negotiation just to offer its allies talking points for their voters. The main obstacle to ending the war is certainly Russia, which could end it today but won’t because of Putin’s delusional imperialistic ambitions. I explain this and end with “it all depends on #Europe.” The stalemate will persist until one side is too weak to continue.
@anderspuck@krigskunst.social says essentially the same things in this 12-minute video, so I’m going to start sending it to my friends. Maybe you will find it useful, too.
Let’s ensure that the side that becomes too weak to continue is Russia.
