@transicorn@mastodon.social I don't know anything of your background except that you have lived in Seattle for many years and were homeless for 6. For the latter I sincerely sympathize. I spent some time during college working with homeless and disadvantaged children in Seattle. But I have some insight on how the world views the US. I am a 4th generation Seattleite. My ancestors arrived in Seattle about 150 years ago. I spent the first 40 years of my life living in Seattle and the last 40 years living in Taiwan and for the past almost 15 years I have spent 4 to 5 months a year in Japan and France. While in France I also spend time in Italy, Holland, and the UK. I know a lot of what they think about their own situation as well as what they think about the US. Most Europeans know more about the US and how it works than Americans know about the EU and how it works. But I admit that when I say that I am originally from Seattle, in many cases I have to say it is about 300 kilometers south of Vancouver B.C.

How many Americans can pronounce Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch or even know that it is a village in Wales or that a lot of Pennsylvania was settled by welsh coal miners or that Mt. Snowdon is the highest mountain in England and Wales. For knowledge of the world out side of their own country, the citizens of the US are among the worst.
