Now I'm curious how the data looks for us nerds over here on the fediverse: where do you register your domains? If at multiple places, let's interpret this as if you were registering a domain today, w

@gintoxicating somewhat embarrassingly, I'm using AWS. my previous registrar gave me basically zero control over the DNS, and AWS was the only one i knew at the time that would give me total control over everything.

with another tech thing of mine breaking i finally got out a box to throw broken/unneeded tech into for recycling. now i've got a couple decades worth of old junk to sort through. some of them are old consoles and peripherals that i'm not sure what else to do with, and not sure if they even still function...

bleh, spent all day in "ai" training/hype sessions, and immediately after we finished my mouse decided to break on the plus side, it seems most of the engineers who were panelists are aware of what this stuff actually is and what the limitations are, even though our company direction is still to use it everywhere at any cost. big focus on verifying what it's saying/doing and not just trusting it outright. i still don't like the stuff at all, but at least most people are approaching it with due caution.

Reposting a question for Ed Zitron, I'll forward responses. He asked on Bluesky and will get sub-Mastodon-tier answers: "This is a serious question and I would be delighted if I only hear great things

@ludicity@mastodon.sprawl.club For the record, I work at a software company that employs ~10k developers. Before LLMs, I'd encounter such engineers a couple of times a month, but I interact with a lot of engineers, specifically the ones that need help or are new at the company or industry at large, so it's a selected sample. Even the most inexperienced ones are willing and able to learn with some guidance. After LLMs, there's been a significant uptick, and these new ones are grossly incompetent, incurious, impatient, and behave like addicts if their supply of tokens is at all interrupted. If they run out of prompt credits, its an emergency because they claim they can't do any work at all. They can't even explain the architecture of what they are making anymore, and can't even file tickets or send emails without an LLM writing it for them, and they certainly lack in any kind of reading comprehension. It's bleak and depressing, and makes me want to quit the industry altogether.
