Built? By whom? The issue with soviet blocks was not the density. The actual design was brilliant as each of these blocks had all conveniences like schools and shops within reach. The issue as with most soviet union is corruption and management incompetence. They took one design and applied to 15% of world’s land mass. So the house in deep Siberia and costs of warm Azerbaijan were the same. People live just fine in close quarters - just take a look at Japan.

Tesonet is pretty well known as one of the biggest tech company in the baltics region so obviously they do a lot of different tech. VPN itself is mostly harmless and can't intercept e2e encrypted traffic and today even DSN is under e2e. The only red flag is really the inaccurate advertising that vpn protects from public wifi issues which is on page with every VPN ad (except Mullvad) but still wrong.

I’ve been a software engineer for over 20 years now and tbh I couldn’t tell you even if my life depended on it. I know it’s a shit tier hosting service that people use because they offer 5$ worth virtual server for free with a valid credit card but that’s about it. It’s one of those ancient paper shuffling IT companies that is 95% sale/middle mamager leeches, 5% wizard engineers carrying everything on their shoulders.

If the child ignores the parents and uses hacks to bypass parenting controls then no parenting control will ever help. It’s a tool and it must be based on existing parenting foundation not replace parenting. If a child receives a smartphone the very minimum parents must do is establish trust in the social contract between the two parties: “I give you a phone and use a privacy respecting parental control if you agree to not mess with it and keep me in the loop”. If this simple base cannot be established then all parental control is moot and we failed already. It’s really not that hard. I used to think these magement and conflict parts are the hard parts of parenting but it’s really not, the hard part is how much time/energy kids eat up to the point where it’s easy to be lazy and not pursue management solutions which are really simple.

Tech regulation is such a joke that I struggle to take any of it seriously anymore. Google was found monopoly and they didnt issue a punishment because “it was long time ago and now there are AI browsers”. Australia banning teenagers from social media instead of, you know, fixing social media for all people. It’s like punching air yet if you personally break ToS or IP law you are criminally charged.

Meta tolerates rampant ad fraud from China to safeguard billions in revenue

Last year, Meta had to reckon with an ugly conclusion about its Chinese advertising customers: They were defrauding Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp users worldwide. Though China’s authoritarian government bans use of Meta social media by its citizens, Beijing lets Chinese companies advertise to foreign consumers on the globe-spanning platforms. As a result, Meta’s advertising business was thriving in China, ultimately reaching over $18 billion in annual sales in 2024, more than a tenth of the company’s global revenue. But Meta calculated that about 19% of that money – more than $3 billion – was coming from ads for scams, illegal gambling, pornography and other banned content, according to internal Meta documents reviewed by Reuters.

I spray my garden with couple of cigarettes worth of tobacco water once in a while - works great as a natural insecticide! I also used to live next to a tobacco plantation in Thailand once and the plant itself is quite incredible - basically untouchable by disease or insects so completel hands free and the fields are really cozy.

Just don’t miss payments then. They make money from sales cut not from fees. E.g. Amazon will take 6% loss to get a sale giving Klarna 3% and losing 3% to inflation. Looking at Klarna for example it’s 5$ late fee and then it gets reported to relevant authorities (credit, collections etc.) and they just block you. It’s not that tricky like payday loans or similar. The issue at hand is really just people buying more than they can afford because they are not charged instantly.

Except many BNPL options are 0% interest rate. I just renovated an apartment with ikea stuff and they offered me 0% interest rate over 1 year - it makes no sense to not take this offer. Many companies would gladly lose 4% (avg inflation) to guarantee a sale especially when dipping on loans are basically impossible today for the average consumer.
