@gabrielesvelto @mhoye while it's all the same functionally, let's not pretend like credit isn't a normal thing, lmao.

@hopeless @joepie91 @jk @kolya yes they can always quit. they can always ignore. they can always do whatever. this is my entire point.
I'm not arguing that so-called entitled users aren't assholes or that their words can't hurt, just that it's largely irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

@hopeless @joepie91 @jk @kolya believe it not, that doesn't matter. you are presenting choices maintainers make as mandatory, which they are not. people complaining on the internet are just complaints on the internet.

@hopeless @joepie91 @jk @kolya people can choose to not interact or consider bug reports, suggestions, etc. they can do whatever they want and manage/maintain however they want. your argument is nonsensical

@hopeless @joepie91 @jk @kolya nobody has gun to their head making them do these things. you can blame users all you want but at the end of the day, these users are not making the maintainers do anything. your entire assertion hinges on the idea that maintainers literally have no choice in the matter, which obviously is ridiculous.

@hopeless @jk @kolya leeching implies one party is losing something from the other's consumption. the project already existed whether you used the work or not, to say you're leeching from it simply isn't correct and is putting a weird dynamic between users and maintainers. the work can be infinitely duplicated and already exists.
with that said, the post is talking about the real world, where ai patches don't work and aren't easily/well maintained. it also gives free training to ai companies who are actively attempting disrupt and replace the very maintainer attempting to use said ai... and you.. and me.
pay walling everything would be more sustainable long term than trusting "ai" to create and maintain.
