I’ve had a fantastic few days in Switzerland with @bellinghwoman@wandering.shop and @bellinghman@wandering.shop . Fire, drums, flutes, brass bands and a few bagpipes. Tonnes of confetti, flung from floats, lanterns….
Loved it. Want to come back, but sad that @cstross@wandering.shop would almost certainly hate the whole chaos.

Mood: accomplished.

I am in shock. A piece of software had improved! I just booked an Interrail seat reservation for Eurostar, via the Interrail site. I went to the Eurostar app to jump through the hoops to get it to show up there, and it was already there, automagically!

One of the biggest impacts of Brexit has on vegetables. Tomatoes are awful now, often going off in a day. This pan contains allegedly good quality tomatoes from an expensive shop. Two points to note: the colour. They should be red, not light orange, and the texture. They’re really watery. Even though using tinned tomatoes isn’t great for what I’m cooking, I might have to do that.
Meanwhile, we’re still being harangued to eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.

I’m doing German and Japanese right now, and I use Duolingo to give me some daily exposure to the languages. I absolutely cannot do self-directed study from books or websites. I kind of need the gamification. Also, ads cause me to forget whatever it was I just did, so affordable ad-free is a must.

In accordance with tradition, I have used it to fix something (a Playmobil figure I had mis-assembled in a way hard to disassemble and redo), and also inflicted my first injury on myself with it (stuck the pointy end of a spudger into my hand).

If you’ve never experienced the real thing, and you don’t mind crowds, Cologne has particularly magical Christmas markets. Nuremberg is the big touristy one. Berlin has massive diversity, and Dortmund is absolutely the typical market, with the biggest tree. Some places have mediaeval markets.
