@Cyclist@mastodon.scot @helenclayton@mas.to Yay Stroud! I grew up in that area :-) Although I know Thrupp is a tiny locality, but 540 votes really doesn’t seem that many…! I remember back in the day, the people of Stroud engaged in a sit-in; people literally lived in the trees of Stratford Park when they were in danger of being chopped down. The Green movement has always been strong in the area.

It popped into my head the other day but none of my British friends knew it. Americans sure as hell didn’t. Meanwhile, I was in the supermarket yesterday in line to check out. They see them in a garden center and think “hey that would be nice in my yard” and the thing is set up for who-knows-what latitude. I found a home shop in Austin once importing (admittedly very nice) ones from the UK: they were all set for 52° and Austin is 30°… I emailed the shop, and they disappeared after that ;-)
