We are now upgraded to Mastodon 4.5.4!

Again, this is mostly a bugfix and security patch, so no new features this time around. You can find more details here:

We are now running on Mastodon 4.5.3! This is mainly a bugfix and security release, so no new features this time around.

This outage, estimated to be approx. 5 minutes in duration, was the result of routine maintenance to apply Mastodon patch 4.5.2.

As part of the upgrade process, several images are pulled from the Github repository.

This is typically done when the service is restarted. However, this time the image pull process entered a failing loop state, preventing the service from coming back up.

Apologies for the 5 minutes of downtime there. What was supposed to be some short maintenance ended up taking the platform offline unexpectedly.

We'll be sure to examine how that managed to happen so that we can avoid it in the future.

As part of today's maintenance, we are now running on Mastodon 4.5.1! This introduces nifty new features like Quote Posting and better reply fetching.

We are currently investigating an outage that managed to bring our infrastructure down since about 3.15pm GMT, without triggering any alarms or alerts.

Service now appears to be restored, but may be slow while processing queues catch up with tasks.

We will share further details as soon as we have them, and apologise profusely for this problem today.

We're now upgraded to Mastodon 4.4.8! You can find all the details over on their github page, but this one's mainly a security update.

Looks like we'll be getting 4.5 soon though!

Hey everyone! Great news - we are now upgraded to Mastodon 4.4.5!

This update is mostly a collection of bug fixes and performance improvements. No new features, but still a welcome upgrade!

Fixed a sneaky bug stopping larger images and video files from uploading.

Previously, you'd get an error stating 'Error generating thumbnail' or similar.

The root cause was an issue with our host's Object Storage implementation, that required a few additional parameters to be set in Mastodon's config.

We've now updated our version of Mastodon to version 4.3.3! This is mostly a bugfix update, with all the changes available in this list:

We're also changing our approach to storing images from other servers, shrinking it down from indefinite to 14 days - our image hosting costs were getting huge! Don't worry though - if you click on an old image then it'll still redownload from the old server.

@David@gamepad.club Please can you cut down on these automated spam messages, as you’re flooding the local timeline and generating complaints from other federated servers.

Please note that failure to respond may result in closure of your account permanently as per Rule 4.
