We are flying the Ukrainian flag at the Embassy and the German House today to express our solidarity with Ukraine.

It's been two years since Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine.

Germany will support Ukraine for as long as it takes.

We're the biggest donor of military aid to Ukraine in Europe, and the second biggest globally after the US.

Ukraine can count on us.

German Finance Minister Christian Lindner visited London yesterday.
He met with his British counterpart, Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt, representatives from finance, business & politics exploring ways to strengthen 🇩🇪-🇬🇧 cooperation.
He also gave a speech at the London School of Economics.

A mural by Gerhard Richter is being restored in the German Hygiene Museum in Dresden.

The 63m² large work is Richter's diploma thesis from 1956, which was painted over in 1979.

It was uncovered in the 90s when Richter refused to agree to its restoration, to which he now agreed.

85 years ago, around 10.000 mainly Jewish children were able to flee from the Nazis to the UK on the Kindertransport.
The 'I said Auf Wiedersehen' exhibition in the Bundestag gives an insight into the fears and hopes of families between two worlds.

Today the Bundestag remembered the victims of National Socialism.

Holocaust survivor Eva Szepesi and journalist Marcel Reif, representing the second Shoah generation, were guest speakers.

The Remembrance Ceremony was introduced in 1996 by then German President Roman Herzog.

This year's LSE German Symposium features guest speakers from and examining current issues under the motto 'Building Bridges'.

Tens of thousands of people demonstrated against right-wing extremism in Germany on the weekend, including Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock. The rallies were in response to reports of a far-right meeting that discussed expulsions of people with a migration background.

Franz Beckenbauer, one of only three men to win the World Cup as both a player and manager, died on 7 January 2024, aged 78. Known as 'Der Kaiser', the visionary defender made a name for himself in the UK with his man-marking of Bobby Charlton during the 1966 World Cup Final (the two would later become good friends) and amassed an impressive haul of silverware during an illustrious playing and managerial career that spanned over four decades.

🎄🎶 Christmas singalongs in German football grounds have become a popular pastime, with tens of thousands of football fans now packing into stadiums during the run-up to Christmas. This year Borussia Dortmund even set a new attendance record with over 70,000 carollers.

Germany is providing an additional €88.5m towards the Ukraine Energy Support Fund which aims to support 🇺🇦 in maintaining its energy supply in the face of Russia's war.

The winter package brings Germany's total contributions to the fund to €218m.

Germany is providing Ukraine with a humanitarian winter aid package worth €6.1m. More than 500 power generators, 2 drinking water treatment plants, heaters, camp beds & tents are prepared for delivery. Over 120 vehicles such as fire engines & construction machinery have already been delivered.

Germany has taken in over 1 million people from Ukraine since the start of the war.

Single parents and their children accounted for 40% of those who migrated to Germany from Ukraine since 2022.

Net migration from 🇺🇦 to 🇩🇪 between January 2022 - June 2023 was around 1 million.
