I don’t have technical advise but congrats on taking your privacy seriously. It sounds to me like you’re fundamentally doing very well, probably learning a lot, even if your setup isn’t ideal right now. From my perspective, it’s never going to be truly ideal—like perfect. Migrating and moving around, adapting and optimising, are how you maintain a good posture. Especially when dealing with companies or even other people like solution maintainers, you’re going to get disappointed in some of them and have to migrate. If you were happy staying put you’d be on Windows 11 complaining on Facebook right now. ;) So pat yourself on the back for that win, friend—you’re doing it!

Can’t stand him anymore, but his delivery has always been good imho. But he just doesn’t get it. He thinks slinging shit at “sacred cows” as actual literal fascists are forming ranks is somehow fair play. Like, it’s not illegal, but you should know that some people are taking real sides in this, and to them jokes are more ammunition in their culture war. In a better world I’d agree to sling away, but I think because of his privilege he doesn’t see how tenuous the situation is (I didn’t either back in the day).

I feel that. I've come down with a really bad cold this month and just stopped everything for 2 weeks, and really slow getting back into it. I feel like such garbage from just that bit of inactivity. I was actually shocked by how quickly the wheels fell off, I started to hurt, feel a sluggishness that I couldn't shake, feel more depressed and hopeless... Working out helps but it's taking me a while to climb out of this hole. It's so hard, it's like I've lost the ability to believe I could feel better, let alone *want* to workout.

I use a tiling window manager and copious number of workspaces. It helps with the feeling of claustrophobia if anything can be easily full-screened and swapped around easily. A 64" monitor with floating windows now feels clunky to me compared to a 15" screen with tiling set up like I like it

Great tips, we have to keep switching it up too as some techniques lose their effectiveness over time. One technique that helps me occasionally when I’m really distracted, is to like gamify it. I’ll just keep a piece of paper and add a check in thee margin every time I got distracted but brought myself on task, or like a “special” when you were just starting to get distracted but caught it before getting all the way distracted! Anyway yeah whatever tricks you can do. I’m big on tactility and making marks on paper so my tricks/tools/systems involve a lot of notebooks and highly idiosyncratic symbols and checklist flows (like [~] means kind of done lol)
