Once again reminding people who are being politically active that being tedious and overblown in certain ways is actually an internal status play, even if you don't recognise it. You might say that it's protecting women or people of colour or trans people, but depending on context, it's not unusual for it to actually be shoring up your own status as sufficiently progressive.

One thing that I think is undertheorised is the weird kind of prestige inversion that happens to a lot of trans women. In short, I can consistently be well-thought of by some really capable people, but *only* those people, and mediocrities consistently think I'm stupid and incapable.

One of the things that's the most unpleasant about being trans and having fraught relationships with parents is that they're often willing to do anything except for the things that you really need from them to repair the relationship.
