Might get banned from the #forkiverse for this, but I think I need the Algorithm. How am I supposed to know who to follow, what to pay attention to, or what’s going to be most interesting to me without an Algorithm feeding it to me? Old Facebook worked because it was my friends, but this is just a bunch of random people I don’t know. How do I navigate this? I feel like the humans in WALL-E freed from their entertainment pods unable to navigate the world.

@Jkelly@theforkiverse.com My main issue is that you lose your history when you switch from one company to another. Given that they use your history for the answer in new chats, switching to a better model by a different company might be worse for me if it doesn’t have my chat history. Plus each of them have their own ways of getting what you want out of them that can make switching costs high. It’s not like music streaming services, which are completely interchangeable and I do switch when prices are raised.

So are there any other people who are only on the #forkiverse because they read @kevin@theforkiverse.com Roose‘s book “The Unlikely Disciple” over ten years ago?

First #forkiverse post. I enabled #Alexa Plus a few weeks ago. It’s pretty good. However, no sooner did I listen to the recent Jonathan Haidt #hardfork episode where he advised that no one under 13 should be having a conversation with AI did my kids, 4 and 6, discover the new capabilities of our Alexa. Their conversation with it was basically calling it “poopy butt” and having it react to being insulted, but made me realize how unavoidable AI chat bots are going to be. Alexa Plus disabled.
