@ErikJonker which will never improve if becomes a hard requirement to use them. I want the EU to make it easier to choose an alternative, rather than impossible.

Indeed, it's a matter of malicious compliance more than bad lawmaking. Sites could also have banners that are not from some tracking third party.
Though the ePrivacy regulation definitely could be improved, by enforcing that 'do not track' (and perhaps 'track me plenty') settings are followed without any further interaction. And they should start to bust the dark patterns so prevalent in this space.
