Hetzner (#AS24940) is raising prices across the board by more than 30% in many cases on April 1, 2026 (no joke).

https://docs.hetzner.com/general/infrastructure-and-availability/price-adjustment/

They explained:

"The underlying causes of the increased costs are, among others, the exploding
demand for AI-related computing power and for cloud services. In addition, raw material prices and production costs have also generally risen for manufacturers. The costs for RAM and SSDs especially have risen by a large amount. For example, the cost for DRAM memory has increased up to 500% since September 2025."

Recall the case of Indiana University Bloomington computer science professor XiaoFeng Wang who was abruptly terminated from the university along with this wife, and had his two homes searched by the FBI. The case is ongoing.

He is a co-author of a recently submitted report dated January 23, 2026 entitled "Trojans in Artificial Intelligence", for the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA) for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), the department led by Tulsi Gabbard.

The end-to-end (e2e) argument is about where to put functionality in a layered system. It generally argues for functions to be moved out and up, but it does not say you cannot have functionality at lower layers or in the middle. The paper states "A great deal of information about system implementation is needed to make this choice intelligently."

Seen in a discussion about the recent GNU inetutils telnetd vulnerability, someone incorrectly states:

"End to end principle is all about putting the filtering in the end devices rather than filtering in the mid[l]le."

That is wrong.

The e2e argument as articulated by Saltzer, Reed, and Clark is neither all about that nor does it even say anything about filtering. In fact, the only thing it practically says about network security has to do with encryption (Yea, they were thinking about e2e encryption long before PGP, SSL/TLS, SSH, and Signal.)

I'm generally not in favor of putting packet filters in the middle of the Internet, but there is no e2e rule that says you should never do that. It was clearly justifiable when Slammer came out.

The e2e paper is one of the earliest in a series of what might be considered early Internet cannon, but it has been so frequently misapplied, misunderstood, and misused as cudgel in online debates.

"In our Elk Grove Village location, our CAM costs increased by 11% [...]  We will be passing this increase through [...]

We have also renewed our lease at Elk Grove Village resulting in increased costs of 30%. This renewal reflects the impact of high demand and increasing costs in the data center space.  This renewal is effective on July 1st, 2026 and we will be passing this increase through"
