A long-standing hypothesis that I've no interest in testing is that the reification of institutions, such as libraries, correlates with the the vocational awe within said institutions.

If there's one lesson societies in the Global Minority seem unwilling to learn, surely it is that their desire for a government never delivers. (You can take it down every layer of the institutions that stem from that, too.) And yet they are adamant that option x, y, or z can deliver.

Tim Wu talking about his new book, 'The Age of Extraction', which sounds interesting. I'm sure I'll disagree with substantive parts of it, but I may have to grab a copy.

Institutionalised open access coerces compliance to suites of requirements that echo the pretence of open access as a fixed and particular thing. This not only stifles experiments on publishing, but it percolates particular narratives and framings of open access to information professionals and scholars alike. Of course, experiments are happening, some of which may elide with institutionalised forms, but many of which may not.

Ah fuck. The stove rope just rolled itself off.

I have replacement rope and adhesive, but it 2200, and the stove is on. This is a job for "tomorrow". (After I've done some of the other "tomorrow" jobs.)

LCD Soundsystem's 'Losing my edge' just came on. I think it was ca.1999 for me. I tried pretty hard (and as such lost a bunch of teeth -- concrete is unforgiving!) until about 2005. But I think it was '99.
