Most of the people employed tell themselves it's just a job and spend their time dodging the reality of handling the dead all the time, but a few.. well.. they go all in.

I disagree. It may take a long time for a food product to enter mainstream consumption, but I can assure you some people will try to eat even poisonous potato berries as soon as they’re first found.
I don't know why you assume there has to be a gotcha, maybe it's the competitive background... Anyway, it's visual because you look at it to see it. And it's not the best human performance vs best LLM performance, it's best controlled performance because the testing is limited to a set of parameters.
If it studies something, it's a study. If you feel defensiveness, you consider aggression. If you feel bias in one way, someone can feel bias in another way. If there's an action, there's a reaction.
It's connected to many different things, but mainly it's drought. They really don't have water, very close to a country-ending disaster.
All other stuff are putting pressure on their ability to gain water from outside sources. And without water, a lot of industries can't function, hence a spiralling free fall towards collapse.
