Well, it's been raining on and off during my ride, but now it really opened up. It's unlikely to stop any time soon, so I just have to go through it to get back to the car park.

I started working on making the Swing UI for Kap useful.

The world of UI development has gone backward for the last... well... 20 years? And I've come to realise that using any UI framework that originated on this side of the millennium is actively worse than using an older one.

It's remarkable how refreshing it is to use a GUI API which is designed with actual GUI's in mind, and not an overengineered document model.

How did it get so wrong?

I notice people posting about trying to get a job, so here's hoping that an appropriate candidate reads this. My employer is looking for someone with devops skills (Linux, databses, networking and development) who's willing to work in Singapore. The job involves supporting customers (mostly banks) running financial software. Let me know if you want to know more. Not sure what hashtag to use for this, so feel free to boost.

@Gargron@mastodon.social @samhenrigold@hachyderm.io I grew up in Sweden, where the edible ones don't grow naturally, so I never saw one until I was adult, probably somewhere in France. Sweden does have the inedible ones though, which are not edible and very hard. Useful as something you throw when you play as a kid. 🙂
