It genuinely feels great to not care about who wins an award. Whether they win or not has no impact whatsoever on whether I enjoyed the thing they made. It’s kinda the same feeling I have about loving something but not needing to buy it. It’s liberating to free enjoyment from both external validation and a sense of ownership.

I know how tempting it is to share things you absolutely hate on social media.

But I challenge you to instead share things you absolutely love.

Two TV / movie tropes I’m kinda curious about:
1. Have you ever been—or seen someone—who left behind an entire plate of food at a restaurant because you forgot an appointment or something?
2. Have you ever been—or seen someone—who ordered “a beer” or “a whiskey” at a bar without further interaction?

For this post, I’m just asking if you’ve witnessed either in real life.

I don’t know how to explain it but naming anything “Project _____” is so cringe.

A while ago I was frustrated that software tries to do too much while simultaneously providing nothing new of value. Sometimes, we’ve simply figured out the solution to the problem software was trying to solve a long time ago, and stagnation in the industry has led to incessant redesigns of things that already work really well.

Sometimes I think the industry ran out of problems to solve. Or, it ran out of problems to solve that can generate revenue.

AI evangelists might be trying harder than Jehovah’s Witnesses at this point.

The reason I started making computer wallpapers is that I wanted clean “surfaces” that felt sufficiently in-universe for pop-culture things I love, rather than character collages that were once provided as *official* wallpapers.

Over the years, I’ve kept finding what evokes the universe that also works as actual *backgrounds*, usually with lowish contrast so they aren’t distracting.

It truly is wild to me just how comfortable people have become with LLMs being a part of their lives. I cannot begin to express my disappointment in using it as an “aid.” I don’t care if you disagree with me. You don’t have to tell me. You don’t have to reply.

Just how it’s uncool to post AI-generated images or text, especially without disclosing that you did up front, it is super uncool to publish an AI-generated app—again— especially without disclosing it up front.

I don’t care if it “works.” I don’t care if people “can’t tell.” I think it’s irresponsible and deceptive. And if you don’t want to admit that you used AI to generate an app, then you know that people would react poorly to that information, which makes it pretty obviously uncool.

I use my iPad for one thing (sketching) and every time I pick it up, it lags SO MUCH from I dunno... various background processes or things “catching up” since the last time I picked it up, which may have been days, weeks, or even months.

I don’t care how bad you think you are at HTML (and CSS). A website that you wrote the HTML yourself is infinitely better than any template-based website you pulled from somewhere else.

If you think it’s going to be too much work, I promise you, fiddling with a template-based solution is going to—somehow—be more work, especially to maintain as the framework, template, or font changes without you knowing.
